Yesterdays lecture was, besides being very interesting, giving me hope.
Nicklas said that we have a fair and realistic chance to have a peaceful, environmentally complaint world with equal premises and equally spread goods. The last statement I liked most, as it showed that people feared the future with all its innovations and changes more than 100 years ago in the same way, some people do nowadays. There were questions in the lesson like if we do not believe that there will be a backlash to less modern times and it turned out that some of the people in the course really dislike innovation and modern technique. I am not one of those, but during the research for my bachelor thesis about Change Management I found the Capgemini study which shows that there is a Gaussian distribution within any group of people. A minority dislikes changes and innovation, the major part does not care and another minority is looking forward to them.
I am one of those who loves innovation and when Nicklas showed the a picture of Nokia’s Morph concept I remembered that my girlfriend had told me about this amazing concept just a week ago. So I searched more information and found that the Morph concept was developed in cooperation within the Nokia Research Center and Cambridge Nanoscience Centre.
Although this concept based on nanotechnology is far apart from being market-ready it gives us a great impression of what comes up within the next years (I am looking forward to it).
But what needs to be market ready soon is a music flatrate provided by the big mobile phone producers. After Nokia announced last week that it’s “It comes with Music” will launch in October the Financial Times today proclaimed that Sony Ericsson will offer unlimited music downloads as well.
So we are one step closer now to have all desired media and information available on demand at any place and any time. The next step in the mobile technology will be the total convergence of all networks.
That means that you will not realize which kind of connection you will have with your mobile device, no matter if it is 3G (UMTS), GPS or WIFI. All devices will be able to connect to all kind of networks and chose the best connection their selves. And all information and media will be provided. So no private person will have to have an archive of CDs or Movies. You want it, you stream it, anytime, anyplace. That is the nearby future and again… I am looking forward to it.
Probably some of you are wondering about the headline of today’s blog… while browsing the web today I read that a poor Moroccan guy is sentenced to jail for two years just for blogging (disrespectfully about the Moroccan king). So you better think twice what you are writing about ;-)
And that was not the first time; earlier this year another guy was sentenced for a very similar misbehavior.
Enough for today,
Schinne
