Google - a real future thinker

Only two days after launching Google Crome, a new web browser developed to compete with Microsoft’s IE and Mozilla’s Firefox, Google files a patent on floating sea powered data centers.

The main idea is to install servers on ships letting them float in the sea. The server farms would be provided with energy by power pumps driven by natural motion and cooled with sea water. Those are just two of several advantages mentioned in different articles.

In my opinion the realization of self-sustaining data centers is a large future step hushing the critics of a computer dependent society. I think we all imagined scenarios of crashing computer networks and data centers due to a lack of energy supply. The floating servers are one back-up against this threat and for sure an indicator of Google’s future thinking strategic management.
